Grooms Speeches Rules – Keep It Tight, Guys!
I am forever grateful to Tom, my best man for introducing me to the resources on the internet while in preparation of the grooms speeches. I am sure without these resources, I would not have been able to pull it off.

One thing I have learned in this wedding speech preparation…it is easy to give a groom wedding speech for half an hour. What is difficult is to condense that half hour into 10 mins and still manage to convey all that you had set out to do.
There are certain rules that I adhere to as the day approaches. It helps me to keep on track what I had aim to do in the 1st place – giving a memorable wedding speech. You can use this as a type of guideline. Take what you will help you….discard the rest. As for me, these points was really a help to me.
Normally, the grooms speech is the second one. He responds to the toast made by the father of the bride and proposes his own wedding toasts to the bridesmaids.
These are the rules I try to follow for the wedding speech:
- Thank everyone that is involved in the setting up of the wedding.
- Do it in an entertaining, sincere but also amusing way…this need practice, though.
- Keep the groom wedding speech short and sweet. Ten mins max. Approximately 1000 words at a normal speed of 110 words per min.
- Make it clear that you are also speaking on behalf of the bride…unless your wife-to-be has her own bride speech to give.
- The groom speech should be sincere and should also be entertaining and contain a liberal number of humorous remarks.
- Have your own personality with your groom speeches. For example, you may want to touch on your 1st impressions of your bride. Or you can prepare a personal message from you to her.
- Learn the opening lines of your groom wedding speech by heart. Though there is no shame in reading the remainder word for word, remember to now and then look up and make eye contact with the audience.
- Take a deep breath and take your time in delivering your wedding speech. Make sure that your voice is loud enough to be heard by everyone.
These guidelines on the grooms speeches that I compiled from various sources have helped me plenty.

Good luck on your preparation of your own groom wedding speeches.
